With over 35 years of experience in entertainment, technology, and business leadership, Douglas Kay is a seasoned executive recognized for driving innovation and strategic growth. He currently serves as CFO of Mondo Media, Inc., overseeing finance and business operations. Douglas led the company through three successful venture funding rounds and established it as a leader in original animated web content.
Douglas was a founding partner of Mondo Studios, a spin-off company specializing in custom casual games for advertisers, which was acquired by TreSensa, Inc. in 2013. Before his tenure at Mondo Media, he served as Vice President of Development at Berkeley Systems, Inc., where he pioneered the Berkeley On-Line Network with its innovative use of streaming advertisements.
Douglas's extensive career in digital entertainment includes his role as Chief Technical Officer at LucasArts Entertainment Company and Senior Manager for Digital Operations at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). He founded ILM's Computer Graphics Department in 1985, growing the team to over 150 artists, engineers, and production personnel. His pioneering efforts in digital visual effects contributed to Academy Award-winning films such as Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, and The Abyss. For his groundbreaking work in digital compositing technology, Douglas received an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Technical Achievement Award.
Additionally, Douglas has held leadership roles as Chief Technical Officer at Big Idea Productions, creators of the VeggieTales animated series, and has served as a Director of the Alliance of CEOs, providing strategic mentorship to industry leaders across various sectors.
Douglas is currently a member of the Board of Directors at DigitalFish, Inc., an animation software and services company, where he offers strategic guidance on finance, legal, and operational matters. Additionally, he serves as an advisor to SpokenLayer, Inc., an audio startup, and as CFO of the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County, where he was a founding Board Member.
